Success
Highclere Stud has regularly been amongst the top vendors at
the major sales, and was the top vendor at the 2007 Tattersalls October Sale Books 1 and 2. In Book 1, 17 lots achieved an aggregate of 3,667,000 with an impressive average of 215,706.
The Stud was also the top vendor at the 2007 Doncaster St Leger Yearling Sales by average purchase price. The five lots consigned realised an average of 90,200gns each.
The Tattersalls Book 1 consignment highlight was the 1,000,000gns Gone West colt out of the Sadler's Wells mare Myth To Reality, sold to John Ferguson.
In 2006 Highclere Stud's homebred out of the Kingmambo mare
Model Queen by Montjeu sold for 600,000gns to Demi O'Byrne. His half-brother
by Pivotal sold for 430,000gns as a yearling in 2005. The Highclere
sales topper the previous year was a 580,000gns colt by Danehill
out of Heavenly Whisper.
High-priced sales success isn't something new to Highclere. The multiple Stakes winning and Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner, May Ball, sold for 550,000 to Shadai Farm at Tattersalls December Broodmare Sale in 2006.
In 1989 Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks winner Roseate Tern sold for 1,100,000gns at the same sale. Her dam, Rosia Bay gave the stud some international sales success when selling at Keeneland for $600,000 the year before having been purchased for only 6,200gns.
Highclere Stud has also enjoyed plenty of success on the racecourse, with horses in their own owership and with ones that have been sold as yearlings at the sales.
These include Group 1 Moyglare winner, Lemon Soufflé, who was the Top Filly of the 1993 European Two-Year-Old Classifications, and other Stakes winners or perfomers: Birdie, Captain Hurricane, Caramba, Fickle, Lyric Fantasy, Niche, Tincture, Tora Bora, Smirk and Stetchworth Prince.
