10 individual Stakes horses from Motivator's first-crop

Lyssio became the tenth individual Stakes horse from Motivator's first-crop when finishing third in the Preis des Casino Baden Baden (L) in Germany at the weekend.

This fact is particularly notable considering that Motivator had a first-crop half the size of his contemporaries due to injury.

One of Motivator's other three-year-olds, Hot Prospect, also achieved more Stakes form recently when finishing second in the Winter Hill Stakes (Gr.3) at Windsor on 28th August.  He was following up his impressive win in the Haydock Heritage Handicap having been third in the Derby Trial Stakes (Gr.3) at Lingfield earlier in the year.

Motivator also has some exciting two-year-old prospects, including recent debut maiden winner Seattle Drive.  This half-brother to two Listed winners comfortably won the EBF Maiden Stakes at Newmarket on 27th August.

Approve lands competitive Gimcrack

The John Warren purchased colt, Approve, landed the competitive Gimcrack Stakes (Gr.2) at York today.  He became only the second horse in the last 15 years to win this giving weight away, a feat only matched by Rock of Gibraltar.

It was an excellent result by this Oasis Dream two-year-old for his owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and trainer William Haggas.  Harry Herbert said:  "He's a grand horse and is proving a very clever buy by John Warren."

Approve was following up his victory in the Norfolk Stakes (Gr.2) at Royal Ascot, and will now be aimed at the Middle Park Stakes (Gr.1).

Paco Boy to stand at Highclere Stud in 2011

Outstanding miler, Paco Boy, has been acquired to stand at Highclere Stud next season.

The five-year-old has won eight Group races to date including three Group 1 races.  He provided one of the most memorable moments of the season when cruising home in the Lockinge Stakes (Gr.1) at Newbury in a performance which famously reduced his trainer Richard Hannon to tears.

John Warren said: "There was fierce competition for him from a number of established studs and as a grandson of the amazing sire of sires, Green Desert, we count ourselves lucky to be in the position to stand what is one of the toughest, most prolific milers to retire to stud in living memory.

"Richard Hannon has said to me, 'If he produces stock that look like himself, I will be buying as many as I can get my hands on."

As sound and genuine as he is talented, Paco Boy has been competitive throughout his four season career.

He won twice as a two-year-old, a 6f maiden at Newbury and conditions race at Newmarket.  Early the following year he claimed victories in the Spring Cup (L) and Greenham Stakes (Gr.3), then defeated older horses to win the Lennox Stakes (Gr.2) and the Hungerford Stakes (Gr.2).  He ended the season on a high when landing the Prix de la Foret (Gr.1) at the expense of 1,000 Guineas heroine Natagora.

Paco Boy landed his second Group 1 the following summer in the Queen Anne Stakes, and wasn't disgraced when second to Rip Van Winkle and ahead of 1,000 Guineas winner Ghanaati in the Sussex Stakes (Gr.1).

He has come back even better this year, recording smooth wins in the Lockinge Stakes and a second Bet365 Mile.  He was also a fast finishing second to Goldikova in the Queen Anne Stakes.  His current Timeform Rating is 129.

Warren added:  "When a trainer or agent goes to the sales, they love buying yearlings by a sire that their owners have heard of and Paco Boy is now a household name.  I read an article recently setting out where successful stallions came from: Cadeaux Genereux, Royal Applause and Pivotal are extremely successful sires and it struck me that Paco Boy has won as many Group 1 and 2 races as those three put together."

A full or half-brother to five winners, Paco Boy, is one of five Group 1 winners by champion Irish sprinter Desert Style, making him a grandson of Green Desert, whose sire line is gaining increasing influence thanks to Cape Cross, Invincible Spirit and Oasis Dream.

Highclere mare Model Queen gains more Gr.1 success

The Highclere Stud bred, Regal Parade, battled home to win the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr.1) at Deauville yesterday.  By Pivotal and out of the Highclere mare Model Queen (Kingmambo), it was his second Group 1 success having won the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock last year.

His ten wins to date also include the Shadwell Stakes (Gr.3) (registered as the Hackwood Stakes) at Newbury, the City Plate (L) at Chester, the competitive Ayr Gold Cup and Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot for trainer Dandy Nicholls.

Model Queen enjoyed more success this weekend with her three-year-old son, Hot Prospect, comfortably winning the valuable Heritage Handicap at Haydock on Saturday 7th August.  This colt by Motivator has previously been Group 3 placed and may well return to Pattern company.

Model Queen also has a yearling colt by Dansili, to be offered at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, a filly foal by Cape Cross and is in-foal to Sea The Stars.

She was purchased by John Warren for 92,000gns from Juddmonte Farms at the 2001 Tattersalls December Sale and has produced four winners from five runners to date.  Her grandam Modifa is also the grandam of Zafonic, Zamindar and Reams of Verse.

Motivator double success

The Motivator three-year-old, Hot Prospect, comfortably won the valuable Heritage Handicap at Haydock today.  He travelled strongly throughout, cruised to the lead a furlong out and quickened clear to win with plenty in hand.  It was a great effort off a mark of 103 and he deserves a return to Pattern company, where he has previously been Group 3 placed.

Today also saw an impressive winner from Motivator's second crop.  The two-year-old, Dominator, won the 7f maiden at Ayr on his debut despite showing signs of greeness.  He looks another exciting prospect for the future.

Motivator colt is a strong contender in the $1-million Queen's Plate at Woodbine

The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the $1-million Queen’s Plate, takes place at Woodbine on Sunday 4th July in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.

It is very fitting therefore that one of the favourites is Mobilizer, a colt from the first crop of Epsom Derby (Gr.1) winner Motivator who now stands at The Royal Studs in the UK.

Stronach Stables’ homebred finished second to Big Red Mike in the Plate Trial Stakes on 13th June, but with only four career starts, Mobilizer has improving form and is held in high regard.

By Motivator out of the Kris S mare Kris Is It, Mobilizer should welcome the step up in distance to 1 ¼-mile, and looks a very strong contender amongst the field of 13 three-year-olds.

Motivator retired to stand at The Royal Studs in 2006, and is managed by John Warren, Her Majesty the Queen’s Bloodstock and Racing Advisor. Motivator has already had eight individual Stakes horses from a first crop only half the size of his contemporaries due to injury in his first season.
