John Warren - Profile

 

John Warren is widely regarded as one of the world's leading bloodstock agents.

 

He combines the purchasing of yearlings and mares at public auction for independent clients with overseeing all of the Queen’s racing and breeding interests in the role of Her Majesty the Queen’s Bloodstock and Racing Advisor.

 

Amongst the 100 plus Group/Stakes winners purchased as yearlings is the Epsom Derby winner Motivator, St Leger winner Sixties Icon and Irish Oaks winner Petrushka.

 

More recently there has been Gr.1 success in Hong Kong, with Collection’s impressive win in the Hong Kong Derby. Others include Housemaster (Gr.1 Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup), Tiber (Gr.1 Hong Kong Classic Mile) and Saturn (Gr.3 winner and placed in the Gr.1 Champions & Chater Cup).

Numerous more top class yearlings purchased by John have gone on to achieve international success, with the likes of Cloudings (Gr.1), Jovial (Gr.1), Park Express (Gr.1), now the dam of New Approach, Leadership (Gr.1) and Arctic Owl (Gr.1) to name but a few.

 

Clients who have commissioned John to buy yearlings for them include: H.M. The Queen, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Prince Khaled Abdulla, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, The Royal Racing Club, The Duke of Devonshire, The Duke of Roxburghe, Lord Vestey, Sir Ernest Harrison, George Strawbridge, Bill Gredley and Paul Roy.

 

John Warren attends all the major sales in Europe and USA. In 2008, he was the fourth leading purchaser at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale - Book 1, only behind notable buyers John Ferguson, Shadwell and Demi O'Byrne.  He was also the third leading purchaser at the Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sales.

 

Headquarters for John Warren Blockstock are at Highclere Stud where the management of the syndicated stallions Motivator and Dr Fong takes place. From these offices John also works in an independent advisory role to a number of high profile stud farms based in the UK.

 

John Warren is a council member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents which is committed to ensuring that high standards of business practice are maintained.  He is also a Trustee of the Racing Post Yearling Bonus Scheme.
